For Christmas Rikki & Nathan had the opportunity to go to Florida to see their grandmother and give her a Christmas gift she wasn't expecting.  A new all-in-one computer!  All of her children and grandchildren chipped in to get her online since she spends the winters in Florida away from the family.  All In One Desktops created the Computers for Seniors program from an idea of how to get our grandparents online.  We have heard our grandparents say frequently they should get a computer and get online.  Now our grandmother can do that.

When arriving in Florida Gram got to open her gift.  Nathan called up gram's telephone company and found out what they offer for Internet service and how long it would take to get a technician out to the house.  We scheduled her DSL install (Free install and modem was free after rebate, only 25$ a month for 1.5M, a great deal).  We spent some time with Gram to teach her some of the basics of the computer and how to use it.  Gram learned how to use Microsoft Word and we demonstrated how to use voice recognition software.  We were surprised how enthused Gram was and impressed with how quickly she picked up the basics.

We went on vacation and left Gram with a Computer for Seniors book.  When we came back she was already online and using yahoo.  We set her up with an account and created all of her contacts with family email addresses we'd been gathering and shot off an intro email.  After that she took over and we made sure she replied to several e-mails from family and understood the basics before we headed home.  She really did a great job and she is actually learning how to type properly (not just hunting and pecking).  We are very proud of her for taking on the Internet.

Since coming home we have received numerous e-mails from Gram.  It only took a couple of days for her to find YouTube and start experimenting with what the Internet has to offer.
